Choosing the perfect motor

Find the best EGODRIFT motor and Kv version for your 3d helicopter, scale build, or fixed wing setup.

Choosing the perfect motor

3d Helicopter

Use these recommendations as a practical starting point for choosing the right EGODRIFT motor family, Kv version, and setup direction for your aircraft.

3d Helicopter

700-800 Class

Built around the world’s first 0.1 mm lamination EGODRIFT custom stator, the Tengu 4730EC Eclipse is our flagship model for serious 700 to 800 size performance builds.

Recommended Motor

Tengu 4730EC Eclipse

Common Kv combinations:

  • 520Kv for 12S low-headspeed
  • 540Kv for 12S regular 3D
  • 570Kv for 12S aggressive 3D flight
  • 420Kv for 800 size / 14S setups

Looking to build extra light?

If the primary goal of your build is to reduce model weight as far as possible, or if your flying style is more precision-oriented, the Tengu 4726EC Eclipse gives you the revolutionary 0.1 mm EGODRIFT custom stator in a more compact form factor.

3d HELICOPTER

600-Ultralight 700 Class

Designed around our custom 42 mm stator platform, the Tengu 4230EC Eclipse is our choice for hardcore 600 size builds and modern light to ultralight 700 size models.

Recommended motor

Tengu 4230EC Eclipse

Common Kv combinations:

• 1070Kv for 6S
• 800Kv for 8S
• 550Kv for 12S

We recommend 8S or more

If the model allows it, 8S or 12S will usually give you a more efficient, more confident, and more enjoyable setup than 6S.

3D Helicopter

550-580 Class

While they look similar to their predecessors at first glance, the Tengu 4030EC Eclipse motors have been completely redesigned around our 40 mm custom stator platform.

Recommended motor

Common Kv combinations:

• 1050Kv for 6S setups
• 800Kv for 8S setups
• 560Kv for 12S setups

580 sized helicopters

Because 580 size helicopters, such as the SAB Kraken 580 and Raw 580, can run up to 610 mm blades, we recommend using at least 8S and choosing your motor based on the primary blade size you will be running.

Choosing the perfect motor

Scale helicopter

Use these recommendations as a practical starting point for choosing the best EGODRIFT motor family for your aircraft.

Scale Helicopter

500-700 size

For smaller and mid-size scale builds based on common 500 to 700 size mechanics, the goal is usually a smooth, efficient setup with enough torque for the lower headspeeds typically used in scale flying.

Recommended motors

Tengu 4025EC/4030EC Eclipse

Choose the motor size based on your mechanics, available space, model weight, and target headspeed.

Common setup direction:

  • Tengu 4025EC Eclipse for lighter 500 to 600 size scale builds
  • Tengu 4030EC Eclipse for larger or heavier 600 to 700 size scale builds
  • Choose Kv based on gearing, cell count, and desired scale headspeed

Scale setup advice

Scale helicopters usually do not need extreme headspeed. A lower Kv version with suitable gearing will often give you the smoother, cooler, and more efficient setup.

Scale Helicopter

700-800 Size

For most 700 to 800 size scale helicopter builds, the Scale Collection 4230EC Eclipse is our main recommendation. It combines the torque and efficiency of our 42 mm custom stator platform with the cool and relaxed operation scale pilots are looking for. Fully HSM-800 ready.

Recommended motor

Scale Collection 4230EC

Our main recommendation for most 700 to 800 size scale builds.

Common setup direction:

  • Ideal for 12S scale setups
  • Excellent choice for large fuselage models
  • Especially suitable where cool operation, long flight times, and smooth power delivery matter more than peak 3D performance

Why this size works so well

The 4230EC sits in the sweet spot for many large scale builds: enough motor to keep the system relaxed, without adding unnecessary weight where it is not needed.

Scale Helicopters

Very large Builds

For very large scale helicopters, heavy fuselages, multi-blade heads, or models that simply need more torque, we recommend stepping up to the Tengu 4730EC Eclipse or, for heavy duty applications, the Beta 5040HS.

Recommended motors

Tengu 4730EC / Beta 5040HS

Choose based on model weight, rotor system, mechanics, and available installation space.

Common setup direction:

  • Tengu 4730EC Eclipse for large and heavy scale builds.
  • 8×55 mm shaft option available for suitable installations
  • Beta 5040HS for very large models where maximum torque reserve is required

When to step up

If the model is heavy, runs a large multi-blade rotor head, or needs a long shaft installation, moving up from the 4230EC can give the drivetrain the extra reserve it needs.

Choosing the perfect motor

F3A Fixed Wing

Use these recommendations as a practical starting point for choosing the right EGODRIFT motor family, Kv version, and setup direction for your F3A aircraft.
