#egodriftcouch Episode 01
The first-ever episode of #egodriftcouch opens at EGODRIFT headquarters with Vincent on a brand-new couch and a reason to celebrate:
"our EGODRIFT brand is gonna turn five on Wednesday." — Vincent
What follows is the kickoff to a full anniversary week — and the best on-camera telling of where the Tengu name actually comes from.
In this video:
- EGODRIFT turns five
- The Tiangou legend behind the Tengu name
- The lunar eclipse video challenge
- The anniversary week program
The Tiangou and the moon
EGODRIFT's Tengu heli motors are named after the mythical Tiangou:
"And the Tiangou, by legend, is a black dog that eats the moon during a lunar eclipse." — Vincent
To drive it away and make it spit the moon back out, the legend says, you have to beat it with sticks (the ones one your radio will do). And as it happened, the universe scheduled a full lunar eclipse — a blood moon — for the anniversary itself. A brand named for the moon-eating dog, celebrating five years under an eclipse: the week's video challenge wrote itself.
The lunar eclipse challenge
The invitation: grab a flying buddy and a camera, film the blood moon however it appears from your location — ideally with a heli in front of it — and submit the footage to the EGODRIFT Tengu heli motors group. Two winners would each take home a free EGODRIFT Tengu motor of their choice, one picked by the community and one by the team (with second place stepping up if both picks matched). And for everyone without a visible blood moon or a free evening, sharing the week's #egodriftcouch posts entered a separate end-of-week giveaway, drawn from a hat.
What the week had in store
Episode one also laid out the anniversary-week program: new releases in the pipeline, the new Beta Series for pilots who want to fly next-level pre-release motors, new initiatives and collaborations — and a look at the new EGODRIFT team in the US, led by team manager Ben Key with fifteen team pilots at the time. Pilots flying EGODRIFT motors who wanted in were pointed to Ben directly, or to the pilot submission form at HeliDirect, EGODRIFT's US distributor.
Five years on from that couch, the series reads like a time capsule: the Beta program episodes that followed became the Eclipse era, and the anniversary tradition continued straight through to the ten-year edition. The couch itself became a fixture too, returning for every reveal of that week. This is where it all started — watch the first episode above, and follow the rest of the anniversary series right here on the news page.

Hi everybody and welcome to EGODRIFT headquarters. I'm Vincent and I'm here on our brand new #egodriftcouch, where we're gonna talk to you about some things that we have planned for the coming week, which is our EGODRIFT anniversary week - our EGODRIFT brand is gonna turn five on Wednesday. So the day after tomorrow, May 26th, And it seems the universe is giving us a shot to do something epic, something of "cosmic" dimensions - with you together. And that is: a full moon eclipse. As you might know our EGODRIFT Tengu heli motors are named after the mythical creature of the "Tiangou" And the Tiangou, by legend, is a black dog that eats the moon during a lunar eclipse.
And in order to drive it away, and make it spit out the moon again, you have to beat it with sticks. So we have a full moon eclipse, a blood moon, on our anniversary, with our Tengu motors. And we want to invite you to go out there, grab your buddy, grab a camera, try to get some filming done. With ideally the lunar eclipse, the blood moon - however it's visible from your location. Preferably a heli flying in front of it, and submit this video to our EGODRIFT Tengu heli motors group.
We're gonna choose two winners from all the submissions that are going to win a free EGODRIFT Tengu motor of their choice. And we're probably gonna have one of these two motors picked by our viewers, our EGODRIFT community. And the other one by our team, so there are going to be two guaranteed winners of a motor. Should both groups pick the same one, we'll choose the second place to win a motor. So there's definitely two chances to win a motor.
Also, throughout the entire week, and to give all of you a chance that don't have the blood moon visible from their location, or have no chance to go out there and fly because they're working: You can still share the posts from our #egodriftcouch this week for a chance to win a motor. So on the last day of this week we'll do a giveaway and we're gonna draw from a hat, from all the names from everybody who shared our posts; a lucky winner to win another motor. So, what we have in store for you this week is: We're gonna show you some new releases that we have been working on, our new Beta program, so if you're into flying next-level ..."stuff" then our Beta program is certainly something that's interesting for you, some new initiatives, some new collaborations, a little bit about our new EGODRIFT team in the US, led by Ben Key, our team manager and his now 15 team pilots, that we have now built into a US team There's still a couple blank spots on the map, so if you're interested in becoming part of our team, and are flying our motors already, that's a big prerequisite for that, be sure to send Ben (Key) a message - get in contact with Ben!
Or go to the HeliDirect website - HeliDirect is our new EGODRIFT distributor in the US, and on their website I think you can still find our pilot submission form/questionnaire. So go fill that out, send Ben a message if you're interested in becoming part of our EGODRIFT t.eam And to all of you, I wish you an amazing week, We have quite a few surprises for you, and tune in for the next show Go out there and film the blood moon, Submit your videos entries, Like our page, like the EGODRIFT USA page, that has been set up by our distributor/partner HeliDirect and see you for the next show!
